It's been a pretty busy week +some here on Esther Drive.
Before Christmas, I took my parents to see the Festival of Lights in Los Gatos. That was really fun. Basically it's a drive through Vasona Lake Park in the dark, with your car lights off, going from light feature to light feature. Some are simple, some are complex. We went to the local Chinese restaurant for some warm soup and a few appetizers.
Christmas was spent over in Merced, enjoying the hospitality of my brother, Pat and his wife, Sue. It was a mellow, low-key Christmas with lots of food and fun. I was in charge of a dessert and I brought the chocolate (+ fruit, etc.) and Camie brought her chocolate fountain. That was a pretty amazing, fun thing to do!
We went to the Capitol Flea Market (Dr. R., his mom, his dad, me) and found an inexpensive way to shop for vegetables. Yesterday I found out that it costs only a quarter to enter the flea market on Fridays! What a bargain!
Dr. R. and I saw two films during these last two weeks: Avatar (in 3-d) and Sherlock Holmes. We enjoyed both movies, but were very impressed by the visual effects of Avatar. We are starting to know our neighborhood theater, which is just off Winchester.
Dr. R. went up with the u-haul and came back with the table and chairs plus the dresser from our bedroom. We made a trip to IKEA and came back with another porch chair, glass shelves for the bathroom, a side dresser for Mom and Dad's bedroom, and a unit for the bathroom. Reza put everything together and it looks great! He also fixed the espresso machine, which means we can enjoy "real" coffee again!
I met a couple of female relatives at Peet's in Los Gatos and actually ran into someone that I KNOW! :::grin::: maybe I am becoming part of my community. It was good to see Jeannie and find out what was happening during her Winter Break!
We celebrated New Year's with lots of food and drink. We taught Mom and Dad Karimi how to play SPOONS, which was fun. The boys in that family are pretty kind, so Rez or his dad would make sure that his mom got a spoon and take the letter themselves rather than make someone else get it. At midnight, their were fireworks out in the neighborhood. Not just sparklers, but booming, then light-up-the-sky fireworks. Dr. R.'s sister, Massemeh called and wished us all a "Soleh no maborach" (Happy New Year).
I hope your New Year is a happy one.
with love and good wishes,
Kellyann

The new house seems to be taking shape little by little. Isn't it fun to figure out a new neighborhood? Have you thought of having an open house and inviting all the neighbors over? Just an idea...
