Shell Painting

I bet you've grown awful tired of the pears!
Finally some time to paint... and energy to do so!
I have had about four weeks of an awful cold. It would get somewhat better, then come again full force. It sure upped my gratitude quotient! Now I am so grateful to wake up with energy and glad to be able to go to work and... well everything!

Just before she went back to Colorado for a month, my momma gave me this beautiful shell where she had planted a couple of succulents. It sits on my kitchen shelf and radiates pink loving kindness.

Here is a pencil sketch on drawing paper:

and a better painting of it:
This is the LAST sheet of a book of watercolor paper. I find that first and last sheets are particularly auspicious. Don't worry, I have tons more paper, but this one is now destined to the bookshelf... a tiny time capsule of 2011.

As we cruise into Thanksgiving, I am thankful for the blessings of paint, water, paper, pencil, ink, air, and time.

That second shell really shows some depth. I am almost afraid to use a bound book of watercolor paper as it seems so "final" or "collectable" and some paintings are just "studies."

Dear Kelly, I liked your comment on Barbara`s blog, and that you also read that book and enjoy its thoughts. As Thanksgiving comes along (not in Germany, we already celebrated that in October), shouldn`t we all pause for a moment and really and truly be grateful? Yes, I think that I have not only enough but plenty, I love living and laughing and sharing my own joy. And I waving over to you, my related soul! Angela
